He orders the wolves to kill the cub, but Banjo escapes. Shere Khan then convinces Banjo that the tragedy was Bnajo's own fault and advises him to leave the kingdom and never return. Shere Khan refuses to help agheera, instead throwing him to his death. Bagheera saves Banjo, but ends up hanging perilously from the gorge's edge. Shere Khan himself does not interfere to save Banjo, but instead informs Bagheera of Banjo's peril, knowing that the king will rush to save his son. Shere Khan sets a trap for his brother and nephew by luring Banjo into a gorge and having the wolves drive a large herd of wildebeest into a stampede that will trample him into the gorge. Though upset with Banjo, Bagheera forgives him and explains that the great kings of the past watch over them from the night sky, from which he will one day watch over Banjo. The cubs are soon attacked by three arctic wolves, Spotty, Luk and Moonch, who are in league with Shere Khan, but Bagheera intervenes and rescues the cubs. Shere Khan tricks Banjo and his best friend Marie (Young Shira), to whom Banjo is betrothed, into exploring a forbidden elephants' graveyard by tricking Rafael. Meanwhile, Shere Khan plots to eliminate Bagheera and Banjo (Young Diego), so that he may become king. This is the subject of an argument with first Bagheera's majordomo, the toucan Rafael, and then Bagheera himself.Ī few years later, Bagheera shows a young Diego (Banjo) the Pride Lands and explains to him the responsibilities of kingship and the "circle of life", which connects all living things. Bagheera's younger brother, Shere Khan, covets the throne and is angered by the birth of the new prince, as it means he is no longer first in line. King Bagheera's and Queen Tigress's newborn son, Diego, is presented to the gathering animals by King Louie the Orangutan, the kingdom's shaman and advisor. In the Pride Lands of Africa, a pride of tigers rule over the animal kingdom from Pride Rock.
